Austin's funeral charges and plans

The funeral cost list, estimate and invoice are divided into four parts:

Primary Charges

Primary Charges include the essential charges of a funeral i.e. the service charge, the coffin, the hearse and limousines. These, with the exception of a limousine, are the minimum components of a funeral.

Other choices
Other Choices are additional services chosen by you. These may include the provision of a special gown, the use of our chapels of rest for visiting, placing the coffin in Church prior to the funeral service, the provision of a horsedrawn hearse, and the release of white memorial doves.
Additional charges

Additional Charges are those made for services in addition to the primary charges. These might include the removal of the deceased outside business hours, additional mileage charges, the removal and storage of an existing memorial stone, preparation of the burial plot and the interment of cremated remains.

Disbursements

Disbursements are services supplied by an individual or company independent of Austin’s. These include fees charged by doctors, ministers, cemeteries and crematoria. These costs are paid in advance, by Austin’s, on your behalf. At the time of arranging the funeral you will receive a written estimate of the funeral costs.

The payment process

1) Having agreed that the funeral will be carried out by Austin’s, a deposit is required equal to the cost of the payments made in advance on your behalf (disbursements). This is payable at least 48 hours prior to the day of the funeral.

2) You are welcome to settle the full account in advance should you so wish otherwise an invoice for the balance of the account will be sent to you during the week following the day of the funeral service.

3) Monthly funeral plans are also available – please see below for further details

Full payment of the account is due within 21 days of the Funeral Service.

Where assistance is being sought from the Social Fund, the difference between the anticipated entitlement and the total cost of the funeral is required.

All funeral directors are legally required to publish their price list for a standardised set of products and services.

This is to help you think through your options and make choices, and to let you compare prices between different funeral directors (because prices can vary).
