Austins have named the North Herts and Stevenage branch of Samaritans as our charity for 2015. The branch are based locally in Hitchin.
Volunteers take telephone calls as well as face to face appointments and the branch has been established since 1971. Samaritans work with other support groups in the area helping vulnerable people and those in need of emotional support such as mental health groups, homeless, addiction problems and others.
With activities such as ‘cheap as chips’, prison ‘listeners’ ‘Feet on the Street’ and working with Network Rail to support staff who have to deal with the effects of people committing suicide on the railway you can see that the work of Samaritans is vital in the community.
